While both are card comparing games and offer plenty of chances to win big, Baccarat and Blackjack are intrinsically different in many ways. Lets take a look at the differences between these two card games:
Blackjack is the world’s most popular table game. It beats Poker to the number one spot, and is played by more people the world over than other card game. In contrast, Baccarat is only now really coming into its own globally. It has been a favourite with high rollers, specifically in Asia, for years, and is James Bond’s preferred casino game, but it’s only really come to the fore online in the last decade or so.
Skill vs. Luck
Blackjack is one of the few casino games where the player can influence the outcome. By using skill and strategy, Blackjack players can change the way the game plays out. In contrast, Baccarat is a game of luck, and there’s little anyone can do to alter the outcome. You can’t use skill in Baccarat but you can make use of betting systems to improve your chances of regular payouts.
Players and Players
In Baccarat you’ll bet on the Player or the Banker to have the winning hand, or whether the game will be a tie. What many fail to realise is that the Player is not the person playing the game, it’s simply a placeholder name given to one of the betting options. In Blackjack you’ll play directly against the dealer, and you’ll have to build your hand yourself, rather than simply wager on a hand as a winner.
A Numbers Game
Blackjack is also called 21, for good reason. Part of the aim of the game is to build a hand of 21 or as close to as possible, without going bust. Cards 2-9are worth face value, Jack, Queen and King are worth 10 and the Ace is worth 1 or 11 points, depending on the hand. A hand’s score is calculated by adding the value of all the cards together.
In Baccarat the aim is to build a hand of as close to 9 s possible. Cards 2-9 are worth their face value, while 10, Jack, Queen and King have no value and Aces are worth 1. A hands score is calculated using the rightmost digit of the sum of the cards, so a hand that equals 15 is worth 5.
There are more than 40 different Blackjack variations online, but very few Baccarat variants. Punto Banco is the most popular Baccarat variant, whilst a multitude of different Blackjack games all attract a huge number of players.
Both games are equally exciting and enticing, and we suggest you enjoy them both, before you pick your favourite.
