World Series of Poker Survival Tips

Yet again it is that time of year when each and every poker fanatic descends down on the ever-bright and glitzy Las Vegas for what has become known as the Championship of the game, the World Series of Poker (WSOP).

An exceptionally thrilling event, it can simultaneously both the best and worst time of the year for the players involved. Regardless, it is a stressful time for many whether they are seasoned poker players or just starting out. It is for this reason that the below list of survival tips are vital to getting through the tournament successfully and enjoy doing so.

Some of the following tips may appear fairly basic, but there are many that are unaware of the few simple tricks and tips that make a huge difference in the WSOP.

Register Early

Be sure to register early and not to choose pre-registration, which a lot of people have been doing over the past few years, only to find out that instead of being smart they ended up waiting the longest to actually get registered because of the pick-up line being absurdly long when they arrived.

The best thing for you to do is register early, in person. This means going a few days before and not simply rocking up early on the morning of the tournaments. The registration cage stays open 24 hours a day, and if you’re really not a fan of lines it would probably be best to head there at around midnight.

The Golden Ticket

Not like many other poker tournaments, a WSOP doesn’t require the player to take their payout straight away and there are a few reasons why. First of all, it allows those that are busting from a big tournament with many players the opportunity to come back at a later stage as the lines are often ridiculously long.

The second perk to holding on to this golden ticket is when the registration lines are long and the payout lines are really short in the mornings as the tournaments begin, because of the fact that you could register at the same time that you collect your money.

Have a Bathroom Plan

Females can pretty much disregard this tip, unless unexpected bathroom breaks will seriously mess up your game, as women have free reign over bathrooms at all times during the WSOP. Men, on the other hand, need to do a bit of planning.

This is mainly because of the fact that the lines at the WSOP are, more often than not, absurdly long, especially during the allocated breaks. The first thing to ensure is that you know where all of the bathrooms can be located and the second is to be aware that there is a bracelet ceremony that takes place after the first break on most days, meaning there is a longer break and the bathrooms will be emptier towards the end of it.

Look For Value

One of the most rewarding tips requires a little soul searching in order for you to decide exactly what your goals are as a poker player, which means deciding whether you are after the bracelet and the glory it brings with it or whether you want to find value in the games that you play.

Those that choose to get the glitz and glamour of a bracelet out of their minds often find that they have more time and efforts to put toward being consistently lucrative. This can be done by taking note that there are a large number of other tournaments in town that intend to entice players with better structures and that these structures will give you a better chance to showcase your skills.
